About Us

The DMA is a unique partnership to strengthen disaster management throughout Latin America and the Caribbean. It engages the private sector in disaster mitigation, preparedness, and response.

The Alliance is directed by the Pan American Development Foundation (PADF), which serves as an effective channel to leverage private sector resources for all phases of disaster management.

The Alliance is an initiative of PADF and the Office of Foreign Disaster Assistance (OFDA) of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), which is the primary donor. Other partners include the Association of American Chambers of Commerce in Latin America (AACCLA) and the Association of Contingency Planners (ACP).

A Model for Risk Mitigation & Corporate Citizenship

The DMA saves lives and livelihoods in high-risk areas. Minimizing costly business interruptions, it contributes directly to business continuity, supply chain resilience, and sustainable development. It safeguards employees and surrounding communities to ensure continuous production and service capacity.

It also lets partner companies proactively demonstrate good corporate citizenship, by protecting high-risk, low-income communities before, during, and after a disaster. Companies and employees can volunteer to participate, offering an excellent opportunity to focus effective corporate social intiatives to benefit targeted communities. There may also be a variety of tax incentives in various countries and the United States.

Private sector platforms such as the American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) benefit, too. Through the DMA, they can raise resources and attract new affiliates by offering services such as training and technical assistance.
