The post-earthquake news from Chile is dire.
“Some coastal towns were almost obliterated,
first shaken by the quake, then slammed by a
tsunami that lifted whole houses and carried
them inland and that reduced others to piles of
sticks,” Reuter reports this morning.
Chile needs your help. The Pan American
Development Foundation is mobilizing support
for urgent humanitarian relief for the
survivors in Chile. Your donation to PADF will
make a difference. (http://www.panamericanrelief.org/)
PADF, the natural disaster relief arm of the
Organization of American States, is working
with its on-the-ground partners to get the
relief into the most affected communities.
More than 2 million people are homeless, the
death toll exceeds 700 and thousands more are
missing. More than 500,000 homes have been
damaged or destroyed. Chilean President
Michelle Bachelet, who formally requested
international assistance, said her country is
facing an unprecedented emergency.
In addition to cash, PADF is seeking in-kind
donations that include the following:
o Emergency shelter packages
(tents, tarps, cots, blankets,
etc.) o Water purification
tablets o Non-perishable
food o Communications
equipment o Generators
Offers of in-kind assistance should be
directed to: cherridge@padf.org.
The Pan American Development Foundation is a
non-profit, non-partisan organization that
focuses on economic development, enhancing
civil society and responding to natural
disasters. In FY 2009, its programs reached
more than 5.6 million people in 18 countries.
One of PADF’s strengths is its ability to
unite stakeholders – individuals, community
organizations, government officials and the
private sector – to achieve common goals that
benefit the most vulnerable people. (http://www.padf.org/)
Please contribute to PADF today
and help Chileans to overcome this devastating
8.8 earthquake.
Sincerely,
John Sanbrailo Executive
